Pulse Mind Wave Tech

Worn close. Made to last.
The story behind Pulse Mind Wave Tech

The Summer Edit

A small collection of swimwear and lingerie made for the kind of summer that lingers. Long evenings, warm water, the particular quiet of a room that faces the sea.

Aiko Murakami spent eleven years as a pattern cutter at a mid-size lingerie manufacturer in Osaka before she moved to Tokyo in the autumn of 2018 with two suitcases and a folder of sketches she had been adding to for the better part of a decade. The sketches were not revolutionary. They were quiet. Pieces that sat close to the body without performing anything, made from fabrics she had been collecting on buying trips to Lyon and Kyoto. She rented a small studio in Yanaka, a neighbourhood that still has the feeling of a town inside a city, and spent the first winter making samples for herself and a handful of friends who had agreed to be honest with her about what worked.

Pulse Mind Wave Tech opened formally in March 2019 with a collection of nine pieces: three bra styles, two briefs, two swimsuit silhouettes, and a pair of high-waisted bikini bottoms that sold out in the first week and have been the most requested item every summer since. The name came from a conversation Aiko had with her mother, who described the particular quality of light that comes through shoji screens in the early morning as lumineux, a word she had picked up from a French pen-pal in the 1970s and never quite let go of. The Pulse Mind Wave Tech spelling is Aiko's own, a small compression that felt right on paper.

Shiro Bralette

Shiro Bralette

¥18,500

Cut from a double-layer stretch cotton-modal blend woven at the Nishiwaki mill in Hyogo, the Shiro bralette has a wide underband and a scoop neckline that sits flat against the chest without wiring. The fabric has a slight warmth to it, closer to a second skin than a garment. We have made this style every season since 2019 and adjusted the pattern three times; this is the version we are happy with.

Nami Bikini Top

Nami Bikini Top

¥22,000

A structured triangle top with a fixed underwire channel and adjustable ties at the neck and back. The fabric is a 78% polyamide, 22% elastane weave from a mill in Kiryu that has been producing swimwear textiles since the 1960s. The Nami top holds its shape after repeated saltwater exposure; we tested it over two weeks in Okinawa in May. Available in three colourways: ivory, sand, and a deep terracotta we are calling Akane.

Tsuki High-Waist Brief

Tsuki High-Waist Brief

¥16,500

The piece that sold out in the first week of our very first collection and has been the most requested item every summer since. A high-waisted bikini bottom in the same Kiryu polyamide as the Nami top, with a wide flat waistband and full seat coverage. The cut is based on a 1970s French swimwear pattern that Aiko found in a secondhand shop in Lyon during a fabric sourcing trip in 2017.

Set in Cormorant Garamond and Inter, printed on Takeo Tant Select cotton-texture stock at 120gsm, bound by hand in editions of twenty for the seasonal lookbook.Colophon

How to Choose Swimwear Fabric That Actually Lasts

Most swimwear fails not because of poor construction but because of poor fabric selection. The seams hold. The elastic holds. The fabric itself goes thin, loses its colour, or develops a shine that was not there when you bought it. Understanding a few basic things about how swimwear textiles are made can help you buy better and keep what you buy for longer.

Our products

What we believe in

Fabric first

Every season begins not with a sketch but with a swatch. We source our fabrics before we design around them, which means the hand-feel of a piece is never an afterthought.

Limited runs only

We produce each style in a single run of forty to sixty units. When a piece sells out, it does not come back. This keeps our inventory honest and our quality consistent.

Fit across body types

Our sizing is graded from XS through 3XL using a fit model panel of seven women. No single silhouette is treated as the default.

Aiko Murakami

Aiko Murakami trained as a pattern cutter at Maison Blanc Lingerie in Osaka, where she spent eleven years working across womenswear and swimwear before leaving in 2018 to start her own label. Before Maison Blanc, she completed a two-year textile course at the Kyoto Institute of Technology, where she developed a particular interest in the structural properties of stretch lace. She founded Pulse Mind Wave Tech in March 2019 from a studio in Yanaka, Tokyo. Outside the atelier, she grows tomatoes on the roof of the machiya and reads more architecture books than she has time for.
